Dough
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 sticks butter, softened
- 3 tsp. sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 cup milk
Mix flour, sugar, and salt together. Cut butter into flour mixture. Mix yeast with warm water adding a pinch of sugar in a small bowl. Separate eggs and beat egg yolks. Add yeast and egg yolks to the flour mixture. Knead dough well. Chill overnight.
Filling
- 3 egg whites
- 1/ 2 stick butter
- 1 cup walnuts
Beat together filling ingredients. Divide dough into 4 pieces. Roll out into rectangular pieces. Spread the filling mixture onto each dough rectangle. Roll up carefully.
Place the seam side down onto a greased cookie sheet and shape it into a crescent. 2 per cookie sheet. Cover and let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Let cool.
Frosting
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2 T sugar
- 1/4 cup cream
For frosting, cream butter, add powdered sugar and cream, and beat well. Frost and decorate with sprinkled nuts and maraschino cherries.
